Driver20.cab File

To find a file in a .cab, open Explorer and select the folder containing the
.cab files. Open the Tools menu, click Find, Files and type: *.Cab in
the Named box. Type the name of the wanted file in the Containing Text box
and click Find Now.

Driver20.cab, for Win98 Original Edition. So far as I can tell from reading
the KB articles that list installation CDROM contents, Win98 Second Edition
doesn't use those files. If yours is Win98SE, are you certain you have the
correct drivers package?

Normally, however, when installing drivers and Windows asks for the
installation files, you simply browse to the folder that *contains* the CAB
files and Windows finds them for you.

Except for ks.sys, which, dolt that I am, was the only one I was looking for
at that point, <sigh>. It's probably in the CAB file, just got inadvertently
left off the KB list.

I have Ks.sys and Mspclock.sys in DRIVER20.CAB in Win98SE CD and
the Win98 original CD.
Stream.sys in DRIVER20.CAB In Win98 original CD.

Try what Ron suggested and when you find the CAB file the file is in
double click the CAB file to open it then right click your file and
extract.

The camera manufacturer's web site may have the correct drivers.

Who or what told you the files were needed to install the camera? Was it the
installer program that requested them? Exactly what message were you getting, and
when, asking for the files?

Instead of plopping them into the System folder, put the files in a temp folder and
point to that folder when the installer asks for them, and let the installer do with
them what it wants.

I suggest you ask the camera maker's support site for support on the installation
issue.

Try placing them in '%Windir%\System32\Drivers\'.

but perhaps better yet:
Try [re-]updating DirectX with a 8.x or 9.x Runtime package.
(maybe found on the Cameras Software Support CD)

for example updating a Win98 with DirectX 9.x here placed:
%Windir%\System32\Drivers\
KS.sys 4.90.0003010.900(2002-12-12)
msPClock.sys 4.90.0003010.900(2002-12-12)
Stream.sys 4.90.0003010.900(2002-12-12)

also copies of the three files were placed in:
%Windir%\System\DirectX\Migrate\
%Windir%\SysBckup\

(and after that check for DirectX related security updates)

Thanx in advance. I need them to install a camera.
Go to Start -> Find -> Files or Folders.

Search for files named layout*.inf, containing text "ks.sys", and look
in C:\Windows\Inf.

This finds layout1.inf. R-click the file and select Open. This should
launch Wordpad or your default viewer.

Select Edit -> Find to locate these references:

ks.sys=5,,98432
stream.sys=20,,39776
mspclock.sys=20,,4624

This tells you that ks.sys is found in the 5th SourceDisksName, while
the others are in the 20th. The larger numbers are file sizes.

At the top of layout1.inf there is a block of SourceDisksNames:

5="Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM","BASE5.CAB",0
.
20="Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM","DRIVER20.CAB",0
